Frequently Asked Questions
Elopement in the Tibetan Highlands
1, Do I need a visa to travel to China for the wedding?
It depends on your nationality — and good news: China now offers visa-free entry for up to 30 days to citizens of 47 countries for tourism, business, visiting friends and family, or cultural travel (like your wedding).
This includes travelers from:
France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia, Slovakia, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Luxembourg, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Malta, Estonia, Latvia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Malaysia, Brunei, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Liechtenstein, Monaco, and Andorra.
If your country is not on this list, you may still be able to enter visa-free for up to 240 hours (10 days) if transiting through select Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing and more. This applies to travelers from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore, Indonesia, UAE, Mexico, and others.
For longer stays or full flexibility, a simple tourist visa (L visa) is recommended. We're happy to assist you with this process.
✅ If you're unsure, just tell us your passport country — and we’ll guide you through the most convenient option for your trip.
2. Which airport should I fly into for the Elopement in the Tibetan Highlands?
You can fly into either Lijiang Sanyi Airport (LJG) or Shangri-La Diqing Airport (DIG). Both are accessible via connecting flights from major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, or Chengdu.
For your accommodation, we recommend staying the night before the wedding in either Lijiang or Shangri-La town, both of which offer a wide range of options — from five-star hotels to charming guesthouses, easily bookable on platforms like Booking.com.
3. How many days should I plan to stay in China?
We recommend arriving at least one day before the wedding to adjust to the altitude and prepare. We’ll provide all transportation on the wedding day. After the ceremony, we suggest staying two additional days in the area — not only to enjoy the scenery, but also to allow flexibility in case of unexpected weather (our wet weather backup). A 4–5 day trip works beautifully.
4. What's it like to spend money in China as a foreigner?
While most locals use mobile payment apps, cash and credit cards (Visa/MasterCard) are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and tourist areas. We also offer optional Alipay or WeChat Pay setup assistance if you'd like to go fully digital during your stay. English menus and helpful staff are common in many places, especially around Lijiang and Shangri-La.
5. How do we get to this secluded alpine lake island?
Access is part of the adventure — you'll travel off-road in a 4×4 with our team, then arrive by wooden boat, as every flower and ribbon is ferried across the lake to your ceremony site.
6. Is it legal to marry here?
Currently, two foreign nationals cannot register a legal marriage in China. For this reason, we highly recommend that couples complete their legal marriage paperwork in their home country before traveling.
Your wedding in China will be a ceremonial celebration — thoughtfully designed with a custom script, cultural rituals, and a setting unlike any other. We provide a commemorative wedding certificate, which can be signed by you, your partner, and your officiant during the ceremony — a meaningful keepsake of your vows in the Tibetan highlands.
This way, your wedding is stress-free, symbolic, and filled with unforgettable emotion — while the legal formalities are already taken care of at home.
7. What happens if the weather changes suddenly?
This is a mountain setting — and nature leads the rhythm. We monitor conditions closely, and if needed, we may adjust the schedule slightly or shift to our backup day. You’ll also have access to a lakeside guardian’s cabin for preparation and shelter.
8. Can we bring guests?
Yes! You’re welcome to bring a small group of close friends or family. We’ll coordinate guest transport and help manage accommodation options for everyone.
9. Who performs the ceremony, and can it be personalised?
Your vows will be led by a respected Tibetan elder, whose chant-like English creates a deeply moving atmosphere. The ceremony script, music, floral design, and styling are all customisable to reflect your story, your energy, your love.
10. Can we customise the wedding package — like the flowers, photography, or styling?
Absolutely. All our packages are fully customisable — from floral design and colour palette to photo style, ceremony details, and more. We believe your wedding should reflect your personal taste, your love story, and your energy.
11. Can you plan a wedding for us in another location in China?
Yes! While this page highlights our featured locations, we’re happy to design and deliver your wedding anywhere in China — whether it’s a mountaintop in Yunnan, a lakeside retreat in Guilin, a historic courtyard in Beijing, or the dramatic urban landscapes of Chongqing, the ‘8D city’. Just tell us your vision — we’ll make it real.
