Marriage Registration & Recognition

If you choose to legally register your marriage in New Zealand, your marriage will be legally recognised in most countries worldwide.

Please note:

  • A marriage registered in New Zealand is recognised internationally.

  • However, it is not automatically registered again in your home country.

  • You can only legally register your marriage once, in one country.

  • Your New Zealand Marriage Certificate is the official legal document and can be used as proof of marriage overseas when required.

  • If you live outside New Zealand, you may choose to legally register your marriage in New Zealand, or alternatively, register your marriage in your country of residence and hold a ceremony in New Zealand.

When

Please apply for the marriage license four weeks before your big day.

1, Choose the personalised ceremony from the link and fill in all the required information.

2, We will send you your celebrant's name when we finalised the booking

3, Please choose to have the license emailed to you and forward it to us once you receive it.

4, Please pre-order your marriage certificate to be posted to your home address directly.

Don't worry about the backup venue for your ceremony.

The celebrant will tidy up all the information based on the actual event that happened on your big day.
