Real Wedding: Daniel & Ramneek, A backyard wedding in Autumn, Queenstown

If it wasn’t for Covid, Daniel and Ramneek would have had a big wedding in NZ, with family flying in from all over South Africa & UK, which would have then be followed by another 300 guest wedding in India.

On top of that, they are planning to have at least 10 kids…… hmm, it’s probably easier to get the kids’ plan rolling first. So, they decided to have an intimate backyard wedding this May.

Daniel and Ramneek are all about family (and cats). They wanted to marry in the place that was built by Daniel’s Dad, who sadly passed away years earlier. They placed photos of Ramneek’s family who couldn’t be present as they live in India, near the arch to be part of the wedding. Dawn, Daniel’s Mum, displayed her wedding photo and her parent’s wedding photo at the alter as well. Those photos blurred the line between past and present.

These photos showed the roots of their families and their love that cannot be defeated by time or space.

Immediately before the ceremony, Ramneek made a video call to her family in India to show them how she looked and how beautiful the ceremony will be. Lots of tears of joy and laughter were shared.

It was an intimate backyard wedding that was packed with goodness!

Apart from the lovely ceremony, there was a delicious picnic, a beautiful teepee, creative food & drinks, dancing in autumn leaves, dancing under the stars, and late-night beer drinking under fluffy blankets.

I immediately clicked with Ramneek & Dawn (Daniel’s mum) when they came to choose Ramneek’s wedding dress (must has something to do with us all being cat people!).

Dawn was the main planner of this wedding and she did a marvelous job. My role in this wedding was the “Wedding Concierge”, which was to provide a wedding dress for Ramneek/help her wear the dress like a supermodel/ decorate the ceremony / provide an insider’s insight regarding all other vendor choices (including photographer, videographer, and celebrant, etc.) / write wedding run sheet / coordinate onsite to make sure everything goes seamlessly / take lots of cat photos on the day whenever possible.

And I enjoyed every minute of that autumn day; working in such a beautiful setting while listening to birds chirping obsessively.

It was not long after I lost my baby cat Sonic when I first met Ramneek, I was feeling grief and powerless towards death.

Seeing all the pictures of Daniel and Ramneek’s families, alive or passed away, on their wedding day, helped me with my healing progress. You see, we didn’t lose anyone or anything. We never did. All are preserved in love.
